The Supreme Court of Nigeria has rescheduled the naira redesign case for March 3.

This decision was made public today, Wednesday, February 22, 2023, following a court hearing.

It may be recalled that at least 17 states joined a consolidated suit demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari refrain from abruptly redesigning the national currency.

After hearing from dozens of lawyers on both the governors’ and federal government’s sides, the Supreme Court announced that a decision would be issued next month.

As a result of the proceedings, the judgment date will be after the February 25 presidential election.

The court had previously ordered that the old notes be kept in circulation.

Banks have been unable to issue new notes to Nigerians. This has resulted in economic hardship throughout the country.

The Central Bank of Nigeria said it would try to make the much-desired N500 and N1,000 notes available.
